Greenland

Picturesque coast line of Nuuk with its rugged coastline and colourful houses

After a long flight- Dylan and I spent a day in the capital city of Greenland – Nuuk – to flight plan and stretch our legs for a day.

A great boardwalk to see the coast
Nuuk is located on the south west coast of Greenland. Has a population of about 20,000 people and is considered one of the smallest and most remote capital cities in the world.
Nuuk was founded in 1728 by the Danish Norwegian missionary- Hans Egede. Greenland is is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark
Such a beautiful walk through the town and along the Nuuk Fjord. When Dylan and I travel and we have a day we try to walk what we call “our Camino” and walk 20 km. By doing this we manage to cover a lot of space!
We had incredible weather- clear sky and little wind. The winds the next day were forecasted for 40 knots and cloudy
This morning we departed on a fantastic flight across the Greenland mountains and Icecap
The beauty of the high North is so breathtaking
Where the icecap meets the sea and icebergs are born
I wonder about the line on the rock marking the drop of the height of the ice
The icecap
The route we flew
Flying 1000 feet above the icecap. On average- the icecap is 1 mile thick and 1.9 at it’s deepest
I will share a few pictures of the ice cap. It feels like such an incredible privilege to fly low level over the icecap I can’t help myself
The deep crevices close to the east coast line
Countless icebergs
The blue icebergs are older with more compressed ice
Only about 10 % of the iceberg is visible- with 90% submerged beneath the water
A final glimpse before heading over the clouds towards Iceland
Landing in Reykjavik, Iceland. Next stop the Netherlands
