I am a day late with this post so we will get two days in one post.
Yesterday (March 4th) we got up bright and early for our eight and a half hour flight to the Azores (San Miguel Island)
Our first glance of the weather we did not expect to actually get anywhere that day. With low ceilings and below zero temperatures (conditions that were favouring icing) Pretty normal weather for this time of year in St John’s.
We decided to drive to the airport anyway and see if we could find a hole in the clouds to depart.

Once we arrived we geared up in our dry suites and prepared for the flight. The cloud coverage was broken so we decided to give it a shot and turn back if need be.

The first three hours there was a bit of weather dodging but after that we were treated to clear skies and a smooth ride.

Unfortunately, it was a little cloudy on arrival to San Miguel but a beautiful approach nonetheless.

I have never been to the Azores and was not too sure what to expect. I certainly have not been disappointed. An incredibly lush island, very friendly people and peaceful. It feels a little bit like a step back in time. A pace of life I could definitely get used to

Today we had the opportunity to drive around the island and check out some smaller towns.

We drove to Lago Azul in the middle of the island.
Every Island in the Azores has its own cheese. Not hard to believe by the number of cows we saw on the drive.

It has been such a treat to visit this gem of an island. I would suggest planning a visit here while it still feels so untouched.

Tomorrow we put the dry suits on one more time and head to Porto, Portugal!
