The beauty continues…

Rising up over the morning fog – departing Trujillo

The beauty continues….

Last week I was talking with my 84 year old mom and she told me a story she never had before. When she was a little girl, she had understood from her church that God was grey and punitive. She remembers when a group came in to teach the children and she was told that God was beautiful. She said that made her so happy.

I fly over this incredible world – the sheer artistry of God’s creation – it makes me so happy and I think of her story.

Another story I think of as I see the array of colour in the land – is an artist friend giving me advice about painting (when my kids were little I was in a phase – some might call it an obsession – that I would paint their rooms with a blend of different colours). Monica said that if you see colours together in nature – you can paint a room these colours and they will be pleasing to the eye. I imagine what I could have done had I seen this part of the world!

Colourful picture from Chile that could have been an amazing inspiration
Before I continue on with our trip – I will share a picture of Dylan at the square in Trujillo, Peru

We started early in the morning as we had a long journey yesterday – Peru – Ecuador – over Columbia and into Panama. We had a friendly taxi driver, and despite our almost complete lack of Spanish and his lack of English – we learned about how long a drive it is to Machu Picchu- over 24 hours from Lima – how to say driving in Spanish – conduciendo – about the archeological dig Chan Chan found in this city – and – how tasty Guinea pigs are to eat – which he raises and feeds corn – and I think he said they taste like chicken.

Due to the fog we were delayed about an hour
As we flew – the desert continued
and then more farm land
Flying into Ecuador. It is quite remarkable how the geography changes so much with each new country we fly over
Flying into Manta, Ecuador to refuel
Leaving Manta
Flying over Columbia. Again – new country – new topography
Our route than took us over the Pacific – and no land until we arrived over Panama
Our first sighting of Panama – the islands and the ships. Past these islands you can see so many ships lined up to go through the Panama Canal
Flying into Panama

We will stay in Panama City – next stop Jamaica
