A day in Kiribati

A main feature of Kiribati is the road – it is a narrow atoll – and the two way road is busy throughout the day. People live all along up and down this road

In our hotel we were talking to some young women who work for NGO’s here in Kiribati. They both spoke about how very difficult transportation is here – how to get to some of the other atolls can take days of delay. It just makes me think of the work that MAF does and the impact that it has in so many countries in providing transportation

A stop at the Tarawa battle field
Cannon

Fishing vessels off the shore
Beautiful water
An old Ferris wheel
More beautiful blue – unfortunately there is quite a bit of garbage along the shore
The evening was the perfect temperature for a walk
In some places it appears that the land is not more than a foot above the ocean
So many very sweet kids. The people here on Kiribati are very warm and friendly
The end of the walk and we came upon a traffic jam and a large gathering of people – Friday night bingo:)

Tomorrow back in the air and onto Nauru…
